About the Southeastern Guide Gods Walkathon

The Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathons have evolved from humble beginnings to a series of wonderful, multi-site events that comprise their single biggest fundraiser of the year. The first Walkathon was held in 1987 at the Manatee County Fairgrounds in Palmetto, Florida. About 50 volunteers and supporters attended, and over $15,000 was  onated. Last year the Walks were expanded to seven locations, and in 2016, the 20th anniversaries of the walks, the walks were expanded again. In 2016, Walkathons are due to be held in nine Florida locations: Bradenton, St. Petersburg, The Villages, Sarasota, Polk County, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, and Lakewood Ranch. In 2016, the goal of the nine events is to raise $1 Million with every dollar raised helping match more guide and service dogs with people with visual impairments and veterans.
