At AMIkids Pinellas, we are not only proud of our students and staff, we are proud of the efforts exhibited by all in order to achieve success. One of those activities is that of following up on our students to make sure that they are doing well and to lend a hand if they are in need of guidance. Recently, we followed up on one of our kids and are delighted to share Lance’s success story.
Lance, an AMIkids student in 1997, came to us as a person who was angry and had been arrested for making an unwise choice. Lance recalls rafting and camping at Panama Island Key as the activities he loved the most. After completing the program, he went on to graduate from Lakewood High and Sun State Academy where he earned his Barber License.
He is now the proud owner of a barbershop in St. Petersburg, where many of our staff are patrons. Today, he has a twelve year old son and is married to a teacher at Baypoint Middle School. Lance has returned to give of himself to AMIkids by volunteering at the AMIkids Boat Program here in Pinellas County.
We take great pride in the success of our students and the difference that AMIkids Pinellas has made in the lives of kids like Lance.
In order for our communities to prosper, we must provide our kids with a high quality education and essential life skills to become responsible and productive citizens. For troubled kids striving to become contributing members of the community, obstacles to achieving success can seem insurmountable.
Our youth face a variety of challenges: violence, family dysfunction, and the pressure of using drugs and alcohol. These challenges do not have to define our kids. Our kids can overcome. Our kids can be successful. Our kids can achieve. Together, we can assist our kids to separate a troubled past from a bright future.
